Savor a meal, save a life. That was a goal behind the "Dining out for Life Day." Blue Rose Café was just one of the 36 restaurants and food trucks in the Lowcountry participating in the event. Dozens of people came to enjoy a nice breakfast and give to a good cause. Participating restaurants gave a portion of proceeds, anywhere from 10%-50%, to the Ryan White Program at Roper St. Francis Healthcare. That money helps care for people living with Aids. South Carolina is ranked 8th in the nation in the rate of new aids cases. Organizers say, it's facts like that that make this event so necessary.
"Our goal is to reduce the number of new cases and help with prevention and, when people do get diagnosed, we really want to make sure people do have access to care so they can live with a really good quality of life," said Dining out for Life Day coordinator Ella Fleming.
Last year, organizers said they raised $50,000.
